As a property owner, there are many steps you can take to make your property less vulnerable to the risk of wildfire/ brushfire. Additionally, some insurance companies offer a Wildfire Response program, enabling you to earn a discount for signing up and implementing their recommended fire prevention measures.


Wildfire Defense Insurance Programs

You may be able to earn a policy discount by enrolling in your insurance company’s Wildfire Defense program. Ask your RightSure agent to explain the options available.

While these programs are not offered by all insurance companies, they are available through Cincinnati, Nationwide, Safeco, Travelers and others.

Wildfire/Brushfire Defense Tactics

• Remove pine needles and leaves from gutters.

• Install ember-resistant gutter guards (Vulcan Vents).

• Install ember-resistant vents in your attic eaves and foundation.

• Clear vegetation, brush, debris and combustible materials around your home to          create a more defensible space.

• Use pea gravel or crushed granite in mulch areas instead of bark.

• Use fire-resistant building materials and practices.

• Larger properties: Keep water tanks and temporary sprinkler systems onsite.

• Communities: Consider using a wildfire detection system for early warning.
